Noc Naukowców (Researchers' Night) 2011 Demonstration

General Information

The Researchers' Night is an event bringing together the public at large and researchers. It occurs annually on the fourth Friday of September all over Europe. Its main objective is to reveal scientists and science in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

More information on the Researchers' Night can be found on the official Researchers' Night web pages:

Scenario - 3D Stereoscopic Puzzle

User is presented with 3D object which is decomposed into 3 dimentional puzzle pieces. The task is to rotate (all axes) and move (on the XY plane) pieces in order to reconstruct the 3D object - i.e. the task is to solve the puzzles.

Required Functionality

Switching between models needs to be added to multitouch controller (the module is prepared for this).

Also a way of finding, which model is being pointed at by the user has to be added as well as a method of determining the correctness of models relative position and orientation in space has to be added.

Console which allows to change various setup parameters like puzzle precision, active controlling device etc. is also a must.

Setup

A setup for the demonstration consists of:

  • a PC machine with 2 graphics cards - responsible for rendering,
  • 47 inches LG TV set with passive 3D technology basing on the polarization filters (plus 10 pairs of 3D glasses) - main display,
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab - main controlling device for users / additional display,
  • HP TouchSmart tx2 laptop with multitouch display - secondary display / secondary controlling device for users,
  • a laptop - console for controlling of the whole installation,
  • WiFi accesspoint - connect all components / enable users with capability of controlling of the puzzles with their own Android based devices.
